Chandan-Vandan Fort is a twin fortification located in the Satara district of Maharashtra. These forts were strategically important for the Maratha Empire as they helped guard trade routes and military movements in the region. The forts stand at an elevation of 3,800 feet (1,158 meters) above sea level, offering breathtaking views of the Sahyadri ranges.
Built in the 12th century by the Shilahar dynasty, these forts were later captured and strengthened by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Today, Chandan and Vandan forts are a hidden gem for trekkers, history enthusiasts, and photographers.
