Dategad Fort, perched atop a flat plateau in the Satara district of Maharashtra, is a lesser-known yet historically significant fort known for its rock-cut architecture, idols, and tranquil atmosphere. Ideal for beginner trekkers, pilgrims, and history lovers, it offers a short hike and rewarding views of the Sahyadri plains and sacred carvings.
The fort likely originated during the Shilahara or Yadava period as a regional control point.
During the Maratha era, Dategad was used as a military watchpost and religious place under various regional sardars.
It features large carved statues of Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesh, indicating its religious and cultural importance.
Post Maratha period, it came under British control but was never heavily fortified.
