Ghanhad Fort, an unexplored marvel nestled in the Sahyadri ranges, holds immense historical significance and offers an adventurous trekking experience. This fort, known for its breathtaking views and rich heritage, attracts history buffs and adventure seekers alike.
Ghanhad Fort, originally built during the Yadava dynasty (12th-13th century), served as a watchtower due to its strategic location. The fort played a crucial role in defending the region from invaders and safeguarding trade routes.
During the Maratha Empire, the fort was strengthened under the reign of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. It became a key military post, ensuring control over the nearby trade routes and enemy movements.
Post the decline of the Marathas, the British East India Company captured the fort. It eventually lost its military significance but remains a site of historical pride and architectural brilliance.
