Prabhuling jiroli
Mahuli Fort, nestled in the Sahyadri Hills near Asangaon, is one of the most scenic and historically rich forts in Thane district, Maharashtra. Surrounded by dense forests, towering cliffs, and tranquil temples, Mahuli is both a challenging trek and a spiritual retreat. Itโs also declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Mahuli was originally a stronghold of the Nizam Shahi dynasty of Ahmednagar in the 15th century.
Due to its location, it was a strategic watchpoint for the Thane-Kalyan-Konkan region.
In 1658, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj captured Mahuli from the Mughals.
It was later lost and recaptured multiple times by the Mughals and Marathas.
Eventually, it fell into British hands in the 19th century.
