Prabhuling jiroli
The Banke Bihari Temple, located in the sacred town of Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, is one of the holiest temples dedicated to Lord Krishna, in his mischievous and childlike form as Banke Bihari. The temple is a center of devotion, music, and divine energy that attracts Krishna bhakts (devotees) from across the world.
The deity of Banke Bihari was discovered by the great Rasik saint Swami Haridas, the guru of the legendary musician Tansen, in Nidhivan.
The deity is said to have appeared directly from the combined forms of Radha and Krishna.
The present-day temple was built in 1864 AD by the Goswamis (priests) of Vrindavan.
The name “Banke” means “bent in three places” and “Bihari” means “enjoyer.”
Banke Bihari is not just a deity but a divine child – playful, loving, and accessible.
The darshan is intermittent – the curtain is closed every few seconds to protect devotees from being overwhelmed by the Lord's energy.
There is no early morning Mangala Aarti as the Lord is believed to rest longer.
Devotees sing bhajans, rasleelas, and dance in divine joy.
