Prabhuling jiroli
The Jwala Ji Temple, located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, is one of the most sacred Shakti Peethas in India. This unique temple is famous not for a deity’s idol, but for the eternal blue flames that burn naturally from the rocks, symbolizing the goddess’s presence.
Believed to be the site where Goddess Sati’s tongue fell when her body was scattered by Lord Vishnu.
The temple has been mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures such as Mahabharata and Skanda Purana.
The present temple structure is believed to have been constructed in the 16th century by Raja Bhumi Chand Katoch of Kangra.
Rebuilt and enhanced during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and later the Mughal emperor Akbar, who tried (and failed) to extinguish the flames.
One of the 51 Shakti Peethas, worshipped as Jwalamukhi Devi – the goddess of fire.
Unique for having natural flames erupting from fissures in the rock.
Considered the embodiment of pure Shakti (energy).
Devotees believe the flames are eternal and miraculous – an embodiment of the living goddess.
Important festival: Navaratri, when lakhs of devotees visit the temple.
