Prabhuling jiroli
The Kashi Vishwanath Temple, located in the spiritual heart of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most sacred shrines in Hinduism and among the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Set along the banks of the holy Ganga River, this temple is not only a religious icon but also a cultural and architectural marvel that attracts pilgrims from across the world.
The original temple is believed to have existed since ancient times, with references in the Skanda Purana and Kashi Khanda.
Destroyed and rebuilt several times due to invasions, the current structure was rebuilt in 1780 by Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore.
Later developments include additions by the Scindias, Holkars, and more recently, the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Project.
One of the twelve Jyotirlingas, representing Shiva as the cosmic light.
“Kashi” is believed to be the oldest living city and Lord Shiva’s chosen home.
According to beliefs, death in Kashi ensures moksha (liberation) and freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
