Prabhuling jiroli
The Mangeshi Temple, located in the village of Mangeshi (Priol), Goa, is one of the most prominent and serene temples in the state, dedicated to Lord Mangesh, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. With its white domes, deepastambhas (lamp towers), and sacred water tanks, it is a symbol of spiritual grace and Goan Hindu heritage.
The original shrine is believed to be over 500 years old, with roots in Kushasthali (Cortalim).
During Portuguese Christianization in the 16th century, the Mangesh Linga was moved to Priol, then under Sonda rulers.
The current temple was reconstructed in 1744 and renovated in the 19th century with domes, halls, and lamp towers.
A major center for Gaud Saraswat Brahmins, it was supported by the Peshwas and local Hindu families.
Lord Mangesh is worshipped as a Shiva Linga, often with the chant “Dev Mangesh” – “O Lord, bless me.”
The temple follows strict rituals including Panchopachar and daily abhishekam.
Celebrates major festivals like Mahashivratri, Navaratri, Ramanavami, and Magh Purnima.
The temple’s serene, non-commercial environment offers pure devotional experience.
