Prabhuling jiroli
The Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and part of the sacred Char Dham Yatra. Revered for its mythological association with Lord Rama, the temple stands as a spiritual, architectural, and historical marvel on the serene Pamban Island.
As per legend, Lord Rama worshipped Shiva here to absolve the sin of killing Ravana.
Sita is said to have built the original Shiva Lingam (Ramalingam) with sand.
The temple's grand stone structure was developed over centuries by Pandya kings, Jaffna kings, Sethupathis of Ramnad, and later expanded during the 12th to 17th centuries.
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas and also part of the Char Dham Yatra (with Badrinath, Dwarka, and Puri).
Pilgrimage site associated with both Shaivism and Vaishnavism.
Includes two lingas โ Ramalingam (by Sita) and Vishwalingam (brought by Hanuman).
Bathing in the 22 sacred wells (tirthas) inside the temple is believed to purify sins.
